I’ll hold my (very sore) hands up and admit that I’ve been a shit blogger for the month of May. To be honest not only have I been in a lot of pain, especially with my hands and arms, I’ve just not been in the mood. I’m hoping since I’ve blogged twice this week it means I’m back in the swing of things but only time will tell – and since my hands are pretty painful typing this, I’m not going to make any promises.
However, we’re in June now, new month, no pain – ha, wishful thinking. Other than the new medication, copious hospital trips and agony, May wasn’t all bad. My family came to visit for three nights last weekend and I got to cuddle my nephew a lot. And I tried out some fab new (or new to me) products.
Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick – Dream Huge | £19 | Smashbox |
My gal, Beth over at Mermaid in Disguise is a fellow liquid lipstick lover (we’re both lazy and can’t be arsed multiple reapplications during the day) and we seem to like all the same formulas. So, when she told me I had to try Smashbox, I knew I HAD to try them. I picked up Dream Huge, a beautiful mauve pink (very similar to Kat Von D – Mother) that is perfect for everyday wear. It’s really pigmented, doesn’t transfer, dries down really quickly and is comfortable for a matte liquid lipstick. I really like the formula and will be definitely buying more shades.
Benefit Galifornia Blush | £24.50 | Benefit |
Oh my god, I cannot stop wearing this blusher. I think obsessed is an understatement, I’ve literally not worn anything else on my cheeks since owning Galifornia, it’s just so pretty. The packaging is everything and it gives a lovely golden pink flush to the cheeks that is very flattering and wears nicely throughout the day. It’s so blendable and easy to work with, plus it smells incredible. It’s definitely my go-to blush for the next few weeks, if not months.
Temple Spa Trufflesque Ultra Hydration and Radiance Mask* | £50 | Temple Spa |
I’ve used this mask multiple times now, and even let my mum have a go of it because it’s just THAT good. ‘Ultra Hydration’ is no joke; this gold (yes, gold) mask does something magical to the skin and leaves it softer than you’ll have ever felt before. The first time I used it I couldn’t believe just how radiant, plump and silky my face was. You look a bit like King Midas when wearing it but I’ve always thought I should be royalty so that’s an added bonus. It’s great for all skin types, especially those with dull, tired skin in need of a pick-me-up. I love it, I can’t get enough.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer – Fair | £28 |
QVC |
I can’t tell you how long I’d waited to get my claws on this concealer. It was always sold out in my shade and then when it was finally available I was skint but it’s been mine for a few weeks now and I can confirm that the hype is real. It’s full coverage with a soft matte finish that looks really nice under the eyes. I haven’t had any creasing or settling into fine lines (unfortunately, yes, I do have them *sobs*) as I always set my concealers with powder. It lasts throughout the day, covers up dark circles, blemishes and would probably be great for highlighting if you aren’t Casper like me. My only con and it’s not the worst thing in the world; is that the wand is massive so it can waste quite a bit of product. I’m really enjoying it and am finding it difficult to pick another concealer over this at the moment.
Janina Ultra White Activated Charcoal Toothpaste* | £11.50 |
Boots |
Since it’s National Smile Month, what better time to promote great oral health? From the 15th May – 15th June National Smile Month intend to raise awareness on major health issues such as gum disease and mouth cancer.
I was sent two products to try out and had to include the Activated Charcoal Toothpaste in my faves because it’s made such a difference to my teeth. I’ve always been conscious of my smile because my teeth aren’t the straightest, I was meant to wear a retainer during my teens, but that teamed with jaw dislocations weren’t fun, so I just stopped. I’ve always looked after my teeth as best I could but they’re stained and not a bright white smile like I’d want. After using this toothpaste morning and evening for three weeks I’ve noticed a huge difference. Not only does it control plaque and tartar but it helps reduce sensitivity, removes stains and leaves the breath smelling fresh. I’ve used whitening toothpastes before and not seen any change but the change in my teeth using this is amazing.
The first time I used it I tweeted saying that it looked like I was spitting out dirt due to the toothpaste being grey. I had a few replies asking whether it was gritty, what the texture was like, did it taste horrible etc. And it didn’t, it’s exactly like any other toothpaste, there’s no abrasion or ‘gravel’-like consistency left in the mouth – it’s simply grey. The taste is slightly different to anything I’ve used before but it’s as pleasant as a toothpaste can be. If you’re looking for a toothpaste that really does whiten and remove any discolouration on your teeth, you need this.
What have you been loving in May?

I'm so sorry to hear you've been in pain this past month lovely, I hope some of that eases for you this month. It's good to hear you've had family visiting and got some cuddles with your nephew though. Whenever my cousin comes over to visit she always perks me up, especially when I'm feeling low, as she's so sparkly and upbeat so family definitely help. I love the colour of that Smashbox lipstick, and the blusher sounds so pretty too. I've been looking for a lipstick in that kind of shade for a while now, and to hear it stays on for long periods is a real plus too, and I've run out of blusher as well, so this is another bonus. Always enjoy your posts and love coming back to your blog, even if I don't always have time to comment, they always make me smile or think. Hope you're OK lovely. – Tasha
Ahh love your monthly favourites! Really want to try Tarte products, I've been obsessed with their brand for the longest time. I loved your comment about feeling like royalty when wearing the gold face mask – I'd love to see what it looks like on me too. Hope you feel better soon too 🙂

You make the Tarte concealer sound great. Luckily I don't really need a concealer for under the eyes (yet…) but I'm always after a new good concealer for spots!
