As a beauty lover, I like to try out a variety of different products as I’m forever searching for the Holy Grail item; this is why there’s quite a few eyeliners in the above pic. I’m a fan of lining my eyes, I don’t profess to be the greatest at it because as soon as I remove my glasses, I’m met with a ghostly blur in the mirror but I still have a damn good go.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon – Blacquer | $25 | Sephora |
I noticed this liner popping up all over YouTube and was annoyed to find it wasn’t available in the UK, but I managed to get my lipstick-stained fingers on it anyway, and I’m so glad that I did. It’s a creamy liner that glides effortlessly on without tugging or dragging and dries to a matte finish. It can be smudged but sets quite quickly and doesn’t transfer. I especially love it in the waterline as it does not move or flake. Highliner is such a good eyeliner in gorgeous packaging and it’s retractable.
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner – Black | £12 | Eyeko |
I know so many beauty lovers rave about this liner and I like it, I just don’t love it or find myself reaching for it often. I like the felt tip applicator, it’s extremely easy to use and gives a precise line but I found that it transferred. It also gives a glossy finish and I’m not a huge fan of that in an eyeliner.
Nars Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner – Rue Bonaparte | £19 | Nars |
This is the only non-black eyeliner I have included in this collection as I ran out of Via Veneto and haven’t repurchased it yet, but I love the Large Than Life liners from Nars. They’re so creamy, long-wearing and easy to apply. Rue Bonaparte is my go-to waterline colour to make me appear more awake. It lasts all day and doesn’t flake off…I fear I may have to purchase a few more colours soon.
Urban Decay Ink For Eyes – Perversion | £15.50 | Urban Decay |
I really like the nib on this felt-tip liner from Urban Decay but the glossy finish from most felt liners doesn’t float my boat. As the nib is so flexible, it is very easy to create whatever sized line you like and it is extremely opaque on the first swipe. It dries really quickly and lasts all day.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil – Perversion | £15.50 | Urban Decay |
Creamy, very creamy. When I first tried the UD 24/7 liners I thought I’d never go back and although I do really love them, the whole sharpening thing infuriates me – I’m lazy, okay? (It’s not even sharp in the pic – typical Sarah). Once this eyeliner is on your eyes it isn’t budging, it’s very matte black, intensely pigmented and completely smudge-proof; you literally have a few seconds to smudge this out if you’re going for that effect. I have quite a few colours and they’re all fab.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – Trooper | $19 | Sephora |
I have a love hate relationship with Trooper (I won’t moan about the glossiness of the felt again, but remember…), it takes some getting used to as the tip is very flexible but it’s so pigmented and probably the easiest to use out of all the liquid liners I’ve mentioned. Some days it can be amazing and stay put; other days, when my eyelids have decided to produce a bit of oil, it transfers to my upper-lid. Frustrating.
Smashbox Limitless Waterproof Liquid Liner Pen – Black | £17 | Smashbox |
This is my favourite felt-tip liner out of all of the above, it really is waterproof, it’s so easy to use, opaque, smudge-proof…it’s just awesome. If you want to try a felt liner, I highly recommend this one as it’s kind of perfect.
Mac Fluidline – Blacktrack | £16 | Mac |
*Bows* I’m so much better with gel liner than any other, I’m just too lazy to find my eyliner brush, load it up, apply it…you know how it is when you’re in a rush. But I will happily spend the time doing it for Blacktrack. It’s a matte black, gel liner that comes in a variety of colours. It sets quickly and doesn’t move until I remove my make up. It doesn’t flake off or transfer, like some gel liners I’ve tested. I use a Sigma angled liner brush to apply and I find it the easiest way to create a wing. I love, love, love Blacktrack.
What’s your favourite eyeliner?
I love the title of this post! Such an amazing breakdown as well; great job!
I'm getting back into the whole black winged liner at the moment, but I mainly use drugstore alternatives. The only higher-end black liquid liner I've tried is the The Balm Schwing one. I love felt tip liners in particular and I'm currently using the Maybelline Master Precise and the l'Oréal Super Liner Perfect Slim, both are really great in my opinion! I wish I could get my hands on the Kat Von D one, I really want to try that eyeliner!
