If I haven’t mentioned before (I totally have, in fact I’ve probably written it far too many times), I am a total perfume lover. I used to have at least forty in my collection and would wear a different one each day; extra, I know. Now, I tend to gravitate towards certain notes and have a handful of favourite fragrances that I adore.
To me, perfume isn’t just about smelling good. As simple as it is, I find spritzing myself with one of my favourite scents a form of self care. When you’re in agony, fatigue has slapped you in the face multiple times and you’re feeling rubbish about your lack of independence, (by ‘you’ I mean ME) a squirt of something luxurious helps lift my mood. Even if it only makes me feel good for a couple of minutes, those minutes are really important and can change my day around. It’s obviously not a cure, it doesn’t make my pain disappear (if only) but it helps my mental health. I feel more put together, I feel ready for the day, even if I’m not getting out of my pjs, and most importantly, I smell good.
Scents also trigger memories and the majority of my collection remind me of something special. Two of my perfumes were gifted to me by my nephew. My mum always buys me a fab present for him to give to me for my birthday and I can see his smiling little face every time I spray either of them. Another perfume I bought for myself as a present because I was proud of an achievement; another makes me think of my boyfriend, and so on. So, not only does it kick the dust off these glorious memories but it aids in my self care.
Five Spring Fragrances from The Perfume Shop that you absolutely have to try are:
- Jimmy Choo – Blossom
- Dolce & Gabbana – Dolce Garden
- Moschino – So Real Cheap & Chic
- Michael Kors – Exotic Blossom
- Gucci – Bloom Acqua Di Fiori*
They’re beautiful floral scents that are perfect for the warmer months. Gucci Bloom Acqua Di Fiori is an EDT that is fresh, light and pretty. The notes include blackcurrant, jasmine, tuberose, musk and sandalwood. I’m pretty partial to musk and sandalwood as I love the depth it adds to a fragrance, and this combined with the crisp, clean heart notes make it a stunning eau de toilette.
