Let me introduce you to my living room bookcase. I’ve sat staring at it since I finished organising a few days ago and I’m so satisfied to be surrounded by one of my favourite things. I just love books. Yes, I’m a little nerd. Do I care? Hell-to-the-no.
It may look like I don’t have a lot of books but I still have boxes full in my parent’s house, boxes in my house, and a shit-tonne that I’ve given away. I wanted to put my favourites and unread ones out on display.
Other than the first part of the top shelf (which are all Sherlock Holmes stories) and my third shelf, my books are in alphabetical order by author because they’re easier to find. The two bottom shelves that aren’t visible in my pics as my living room chair is against them contains academic books on the Victorian freak show, death, serial killers and cemeteries. I’m a strange creature but they’re extremely interesting reads.
There’s Ian’s Star Wars and Beard books on top of the bookcase, along with a few random ones that are too big to fit on the shelves. I also have a boxed collection of the Harry Potter series, which I absolutely love.
My books are mostly fiction, with A LOT of Victorian novels/novellas/short stories because I am and always will be a Victorianist. If I could go back in time, I’d be straight to the nineteenth century. I have a lot of Bronte, Dickens, Hardy, Stevenson, Wells, etc. These are sat next to more modern novels, and mostly crime thrillers – I’m a huge crime fiction lover. I also really like contemporary takes on fairy tales, supernatural – magic, vampires, witches etc, and historical fiction (especially if it’s set in my favourite century). I don’t have a preferred genre, I’ll give most things ago as long as it keeps me engaged.
I think this is probably my favourite shelf, it has my complete works, that gorgeous edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray (my all-time fave) some pretty cloth versions and poetry. A few of my poetry books are signed by Billy Collins and Carol Ann Duffy, I met them at a reading at uni a few years ago.
I’m always on the hunt for something new to read so let me know what your favourite book is. And if you need any recommendations, nineteenth century or not, I’m sure I can help you out.

I love a good, tidy bookshelf/space. This ticks all those boxes. Whilst your genre of books are different to mine, you can come organise my bookshelf please! Bee | QueenBeady.com
Beautiful!!! Absolutely gorgeous. I adore old books and I love that they are bringing out editions with covers mimicking that these days. I also have that Game of Thrones book π
'I'm a book-dragon' haha I love it! π Your bookshelf looks fantastic! I love when I see bookselves organised in alphabetical order π I can't wait until I have my own place one day & can display my books like this. It's so sad that I don't have enough room for all my books since coming back to my family home after uni. They are all packed away in boxes!
I agree! I find books about serial killers really interesting. I used to read them a lot when I was a teenager. I absolutely love those beautiful editions with the gorgeously illustrated covers. Also, I'd love to add 'The Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe' to my collection x

Cute shelves! I've been re-organizing my books over the past couple days and it's a nightmare, so many stubbed toes.
