Last week I had to go to Colchester for a few days filming with Enhance the UK. It turned out I got my films finished a day early and was super excited as we could go to the zoo on our free day.
I’m a big kid and woke up Wednesday morning all giddy because I was going to see the animals! Ian wasn’t as hyper, or hyper in the slightest. The weather was incredible, sunny, warm but not too hot – I didn’t bake alive or want to leave, so that’s always a good sign.
Colchester Zoo have concessional prices for disabled people and a plus one (carer), which is awesome. They also have a yellow line to follow throughout the zoo which is wheelchair-friendly – this was extremely helpful as there was a lot of steep gradients that would have given my powerchair a run for it’s money.
I had such a good day and I got to feed a giraffe and an elephant. As I’m slightly obsessed with giraffes this was bloody amazing. I loved our day at Colchester Zoo; if we’re ever in the area, I’d definitely go back. Since we went during term-time it wasn’t really busy but there was still plenty of other people there.
