I’m dedicating this post to my best friend, my soul mate, the male equivalent of me, my darling John. We’ve been friends since secondary school, it’s been about sixteen years, which makes me feel old, but I’m so glad we were sat next to each other all those years ago in English class. Nice one, Mrs Downes.

Why are we besties?

  1. He’s hilarious
    No matter whether we’re together, on the phone or texting, I’m always laughing my head off. We have the same sense of humour and find each other ridiculously funny, so can never stop laughing. I think I mentioned in my flare-up plan post that I call John when I’m feeling stressed, but in all honesty, I call him whenever and am instantly cheered up. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t communicate; he usually rings me on his way home from work.
  2. He’s always there
    I know if I need to vent, cry, support, need logic-bombing, he’ll be there. He usually tells me what I’m already thinking but it always means more if someone else says it. Even when I’m in hospital, if he can visit, he will. Or if we’re out and someone tries it on – we pretend we’re in a relationship, buh bye now.
  3. We love/hate the same things
    We’re practically the same person; our loves/hates are so similar…except he likes ginger beards!
  4. Distance doesn’t matter
    John and I have been in a long distance relationship for ages now and it’s never mattered. We always make time to see each other and even though it might be months before we’re reunited, it doesn’t change a thing.
  5. We never argue
    Not once in sixteen years have we argued, fallen out, disagreed. There’s no drama.
  6. He always has my back
    If some crazy bitch is mouthing off at me, he’ll end it with a few polysyllabic words and a little bitch smile. We’re a squad of two.


  7. There’s nothing he doesn’t know
    We tell each other E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. Yes, we overshare. Yes, he knows when I’m having a poo. There’s literally no boundaries with our friendship.
  8. Always honest
    We don’t bullshit with each other, and we always tell each other how it is.
  9. Until the end
    We’ve had plenty of other friends but our circle of friends is a line from him to me, we don’t need anyone else. We obviously have other friends but nobody can replace the bestie.
  10. We love each more than we love ourselves
    That one is pretty self-explanatory.
